This Sunday on MTP, FTN, etc., Dems should mainly be ripping Bush on the exclusionary reconstruction contract policy. But the main point is not that we're pissing of France (who cares) but that the Iraqis themselves are not driving the decision.
Tying the contract snub to the debt restructuring is ok too - that we're giving US taxpayers the bill for billions so haliburton can make millions.
But the more salient and political-point-scoring message is that the Iraqis should be making these decisions, not Don Rumsfeld, so they have a stake in their own country and its rebuilding.
An amateur attempt at a sound bite: "How can we expect Iraqis to take our side against the terrorists attacking our troops when they aren't even involved in decisions on rebuilding their own country?!" or something to that effect.
We have to tie Bush's arrogance and Haliburton crony capitalism (or "enron economics" as Dean calls it) to the security situation, which is more meaningful to voters.
It's most effective polical means to attack a bad policy. I haven't checked the schedules, but I hope they booked some coherent guests for the Sunday shows, not someone who'll just yammer about fair contracts.
